Uzodimma’s Attitude Forced Madumere’s Resignation from APC

By Anselem Anokwute

The former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as political pundits cited Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma’s dismissive and exclusionary leadership style in the State.

Political Analyst described Madumere, as a prominent founding member of the APC in Imo State, that such decisions must have followed by a prolonged dissatisfaction with the governor’s approach to party leadership and governance, which was alleged failed to recognise the contributions of key stakeholders who played vital roles in the party’s formation and growth.

According to sources close to the former deputy governor, the political atmosphere under Uzodimma has been marked by a lack of inclusiveness, particularly leaders who were instrumental during the formative stages of his entrance to the party, including the coalition movement that emerged under the Emerienwe Declaration.

Madumere, described as a seasoned political strategist and technocrat, was said to have felt sidelined, a situation his supporters argue has negatively affected both his political standing and the welfare of his followers who depend on him.

Observers noted that his exit from the APC is also influenced by the provisions of the new Electoral Act, which discourages dual party affiliations, prompting him to seek a more accommodating political platform. His next political move, however, is yet to be officially announced.

Party insiders further alleged that internal processes within the APC in Imo State have increasingly become centralised, with limited input from grassroots leaders, even as ward, local government and state congresses continue.

Concerns were also raised over the conduct of recent council elections in the state, with claims that some aspirants who invested heavily in consultations and campaigns were later sidelined, receiving only partial refunds limited to nomination and expression of interest forms.

Political analysts warn that such developments could have long-term implications for party cohesion and grassroots participation in the state.

Efforts to reach the Imo State Government for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, stakeholders continue to express divergent views on the unfolding political situation, even as the future political alignment of Prince Madumere remains keenly anticipated.
