Nigerians Need God’s Intervention More Than Ever, Says SAN Ngozi Olehi

By Anselem Anokwute

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Barr. Ngozi Olehi, has called on Nigerians to renew their faith in God, insisting that divine intervention is indispensable in overcoming the nation’s political, economic and social challenges.

Speaking in Owerri during the recent City Star Choir music programme, Barr. Olehi said his decision to host the event was inspired by a personal desire to strengthen his relationship with God, whom he described as the source of his success and accomplishments.

According to him, despite the personal and national challenges confronting many Nigerians, there is every reason to continue praising and worshipping God.

“Nigeria is passing through one of its most difficult periods politically and economically, but that should not discourage us from seeking God’s face. Rather, this is the time we need Him more than ever,” he said.

Olehi maintained that genuine faith and godliness remain essential to both personal fulfilment and national transformation, stressing that difficult times should draw people closer to God rather than push them away

When Commenting on the country’s economic situation, the Senior Advocate described the current hardship as one of the worst Nigerians have experienced, the country woes is a Leadership thing and not resources thats the greatest challenge

Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that the country would recover through God’s guidance and responsible leadership anchored on Prayer and holistic attachment to God Almighty.

He argued that Nigeria’s greatest challenge is not a lack of resources but a persistent leadership crisis.

According to Olehi, Nigeria is richly endowed with abundant human and natural resources and possesses the potential to become one of the world’s leading economies. However, he lamented that successive leaders have failed to harness these resources for the benefit of the people.

He said that with visionary and accountable leadership, Nigeria could become a destination where people from developed nations would seek opportunities, rather than Nigerians risking everything to migrate abroad in search of better lives.

Barr. Olehi further noted that natural resources alone do not determine a nation’s prosperity. He cited Switzerland as an example of a country with limited natural resources that has built one of the world’s strongest economies through sound institutions, innovation and respect for the rule of law.

In contrast, he regretted that Nigeria, despite its vast resource wealth, continues to struggle with poverty and mounting public debt.

He emphasized that strengthening institutions, promoting the rule of law and investing in human capital are the real foundations for sustainable economic development.

Discussing on the proper electoral reforms and responsible voting,
The legal practitioner also condemned widespread political corruption, describing it as a major obstacle to Nigeria’s development.

He warned that when the executive arm of government compromises the legislature and attempts to influence the judiciary, democratic institutions become weakened, leaving politicians free to act without accountability.

Olehi urged Nigerians to become more discerning during elections, stressing that citizens have a crucial role in determining the quality of leadership they receive.

He cautioned against vote-buying, describing it as a dangerous practice that undermines democracy and mortgages the future of coming generations.

According to him, politicians who spend huge sums to secure electoral victory often regard public office as an opportunity to recover their financial investments, thereby encouraging corruption and the diversion of public funds.

He therefore advocated comprehensive electoral reforms aimed at reducing the excessive cost of elections, noting that making elections less expensive would discourage corruption, promote accountability and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process.

Barr. Olehi concluded by urging Nigerians to place their trust in God while remaining committed to electing credible, competent and visionary leaders capable of unlocking the country’s immense potential.
