2027: PDP Banks on Ikunna to Reclaim Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West Federal Constituency

By Anselem Anokwute

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified efforts to reclaim the Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its candidate, Chief Joseph Chukwuma Ikunna, emerging as a major contender in the race.

Ikunna, a technocrat and tested political ally, is the PDP candidate for the Federal House of Representatives election scheduled for January 16, 2027. He has reportedly strengthened his campaign structures across the three local government areas, with the party expressing confidence in his ability to defeat the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu.

As part of preparations for the election, Ikunna inaugurated a 60-member campaign council and charged members to take their responsibilities seriously while taking his message of a “new dawn” to the electorate across the constituency.

The inauguration attracted supporters from the three local government areas, including women, youths and elderly members of the communities, many of whom expressed optimism about Ikunna’s candidacy and his campaign agenda.

Inaugurating the campaign council, Barrister Chief Golden Nwosu urged members to remain vigilant and serve as the eyes and ears of the party across the various INEC wards in Oguta, Oru West and Ohaji-Egbema.

Nwosu expressed confidence in Ikunna’s capacity to win the election, describing his integrity, courage and commitment to the people as qualities needed to advance the interests of the constituency, particularly its oil-producing communities.

One of the women inaugurated into the campaign council, Mrs. Esther Uchendu, said many residents were determined to support a candidate they believed could improve the living conditions of the people.

Uchendu pledged to mobilise market women and other grassroots groups in support of Ikunna and the PDP, adding that the campaign would reach communities across the constituency.

Similarly, supporters from the Osemotor/Enuigbo axis, including Osai Nnamdi from Oguta Ward A and Stephen Ochije from Oguta Ward B, expressed confidence in Ikunna’s aspiration.

They said the PDP candidate had demonstrated passion and determination to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people, expressing optimism that he would emerge victorious at the polls.

Other members of the campaign council, including Oguchukwu Amutadi from Egbema Ward A and Hon. Emmanuel Alihie from Umuapu Ward, also pledged their support and assured the candidate of a strong grassroots mobilisation for the 2027 election.

Across the constituency, supporters said the campaign had generated renewed enthusiasm, particularly among residents seeking improved representation and greater attention to the development challenges confronting the oil-producing communities.

The PDP campaign leadership has therefore urged party members and supporters to remain united and focused as the party continues its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 Federal Constituency election.
