It was a moment of pride and celebration for Imo State as Miss Chidalu Adaugo Favour Uchehara, a 21-year-old indigene of Eziobodo in Owerri West Local Government Area, graduated with a First Class degree in Economics from Marymount University Arlington, Virginia USA.
Miss Uchehara, who graduated with Summa Cum Laude honours, distinguished herself academically and reportedly emerged as the first Black student to attain a First Class grade in Economics since the establishment of the university.
Born on October 8, 2005, to the family of Sir Chukwuma Uzoma Uchehara and Lady Christiana Nnenna Uchehara of Umuezeala, Eziobodo, the young scholar began her educational journey at Livingsword Academy, Owerri, for her nursery and primary education before proceeding to Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State, for her secondary education.
Driven by academic excellence and determination, she later moved to the United States to pursue a degree in Economics, where she excelled remarkably and brought honour to both Nigeria and Imo State through her outstanding academic performance.
Aside from her academic achievements, Miss Uchehara also served the institution in several leadership capacities. She worked as a Resident Assistant in charge of student accommodation from 2024 to 2026 and represented the university in various inter-collegiate debate competitions across the United States.
In recognition of her brilliance and contributions, she was also honoured with the “Academic Excellence Award in Economics.”
Her achievement has continued to attract commendations from family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers who described her success as a source of inspiration to young Nigerians, particularly students aspiring to attain academic excellence on the global stage.
