NEKEDE POLYTECHNIC MATRIC ORIENTATION EXERCISE ENDS IN GRAND STYLE
… New Students Happy with the management

The orientation exercise culminating in the 46th editions of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri Imo State, Matriculation exercise will hold on the 23rd April 2024 at the campus mini stadium has ended in Grand style with the new students showing interest to continue their qualitative studies in the institution.
The institution presently has eight school of studies and two Directorates of Evening and Weekend Programmes offering both Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). The Students Industrial Works Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a regulatory body to oversee the IT programs which is a rudiments to bag any of the aforementioned Diploma Certificates.
Established in 1978 by the edits of Imo state as a college of technology, it became a federal institution on the 7th of April 1993 with its main campus located at Umudibia Nekede in Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo States.
The 2023/2024 academic session of the school gained a momentum with the teeming number students admitted in ND 1 and HND 1 programmes respectively, spreading across different schools and department.
In line with the lay down rules culminating the celebration of the matriculation in the institutions, Wednesday 17th to Thursday 18th of April 2024 were special for School Orientations Programme as a medium to acquaint the newly admitted students with the approved codes of conducts guiding their activities within and around the campus.
The occasion was flagged off at the campus pavilion on the 17th by the Acting Rector of the school, Dr. Uzoma Ibeaja, the management team and the Senate. The Rector in his magnanimity charges the new students on the needs for hard work which is crucial for academic prowess shun cultism and mal-practice. He emphasized on the zero tolerant attitude of the School Management over all levels of lawlessness. He advised the new ‘freshers’ to get hold of the “Students’ Handbook “- a printed copy of articulated rules and regulations of the institution.
While addressing the students, Dr. Mrs. Amonu head Guardians and Counselor from the Division of Students Affairs said that the essence of the orientation was to usher in the new students into a new campus life where perseverance and diligent are key to success.
She warned the students against indecent dressing, homosexuality and lesbianism “Today marks the beginning of your success and failure in this institution of higher learning”. She concluded.
On sports, the head coach, for Youths and Leisure Time Sports Activities enjoined the students to make use of the available sporting facilities of the school to develop their skills and talents and to engage in meaningful sporting activities such as football, table tennis, basket balls etc to help their physical and mental fitness.
And further urged them to desist from all forms of ugly attitudes such as smoking and drinking that would rather destroy their health.
Other important personnel of the institution who spoke during the initiation program include the head of bursary who enlightened the students on the acceptable payment modalities of the campus as well as the Head Information and library Department who made speech on the use of the academic library and the rules governing its usages. Others are Dr. Ikejiaku, Head of the Medical and Health Department, the Security services etc.
The occasion was wrapped up with comic entertainment, quiz and dancing competitions. The new student made new acquaintances while many were excited and emotionally prepared to face the challenges ahead.
The 2023/2024 Orientation event of the campus was organized through the collaborative efforts of the Students Union Government (SUG) led by its President Mr. Obediah Anointing Chiiemela, the Division of Students Affairs and the entire Management of the federal Polytechnic Nekede.
Some of the new students interviewed under unanimous are very excited, happy about the ecosystem, school building projects and conducive learning environment.
