ENTRACO BARTERS POLICE DSP : Disjoints his Pelvic bones,Renders him immovable
By our Reporter in Owerri
The increasing rot in Nigerian Society is manifesting daily on the approach and operations of Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission ( ENTRACO)as the agency is now a weapon to dehumanize citizens especially elder statesmen. Else a retired Deputy superintendent of Police , elder
Umezurike Onyeani, would have being respected and spared from the gangsterism approach of the group.
Narrating this harrowing experience at the hands of individuals alleged to be members of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) taskforce
, which took place at his private office near the Imo State University Junction, Owerri recently, which left him with serious pelvic injuries and partially paralyzed where he could not walk unaided.
According to DSP Onyeani ENTRACO taskforce members were pursuing some Hausa/ Fulani and Abakaliki hawkers forcing them to run for safety The situation escalated as, some of the hawkers ran into his mini motor and logistics park seeking refuge. While the taskforce reportedly chased them into his premises, the Peaceful retiree Mr. Onyeani attempted to intervene but the Taskforce refused listening to his repeated pleas of the DSP as show of force by the ENTRACO left Onyeani in ruines.
Onyeani’ s attempts to de-escalate the situation were met with violence while members of the Taskforce allegedly beat him into unconsciousness. He is currently undergoing traditional bone-setting treatment in Emii, in Owerri North, a far from the Capital city , Owerri Municipal.
“
The pathetic aspect is when the police officer , pleaded to be spared , Onyeani lamented “I was shocked that individuals acting under government authority would resort to such brutality even when I tried to explain my identity as a retired senior officer and an elder, but one of them—Mr. Chidi Nwaturuocha, former Owerri Zone Mayor and current ENTRACO Head of Operations—dismissed me, saying, ‘What is a retired DSP?’” Onyeani recalled. “He ordered his men to bundle me into their van. I resisted and they beat me until I lost consciousness. I only regained awareness in the hospital.”
Agonizing is the statement from the team leader disparaging my retirement in 2024 as meaningless Onyeani emotions and psych touched reporters when he disclosed that he is depending on goodwill from philanthropists and gestures of the Royal Father and owner of the transport company at the center of the incident. He says his church members and friends are graciously paying his hospital bills, he added. The have spent heavily ,partly covered by the monarch, who also paid over ₦100,000 for traditional bone treatment.
“Surprisingly, it is only the Hausa-Fulani boys—whom ENTRACO was chasing—that have called to check on me. None of the ENTRACO taskforce members have reached out. All attempts to get them arrested have failed. They even refused police invitations from the Owerri Urban Area Command,” he stated.
Onyeani said he was taken to the Imo State Police Command on a stretcher. The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reportedly assigned the case to ACP Michael Abattam, but neither Mr. Nwaturuocha nor any of his subordinates have responded to police inquiries.
“At this point, all I care about is my recovery. I served Nigeria faithfully for 35 years and retired honourably. It is heartbreaking to suffer such humiliation and physical harm in my own office, not by criminals, but by those claiming to enforce the law on behalf of the government,” he said.
Efforts to reach ENTRACO’s General Manager, Hon. Anthony Anyaehie, were unsuccessful as his phone rang out without response. Mr. Nwaturuocha also did not return calls or text messages as of press time.
When contacted, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, said he was not yet aware of the incident but promised to follow up and provide an update.
