Imo NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Disowns Collins Osuji’s Purported Leadership

The Imo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), under the Imo State Council, has publicly disassociated itself from the purported leadership of Mr. Collins Osuji, describing him as an impostor and a suspended member of the union.

In a public notice signed by the Chapel’s Credentials Committee—Mazi George Onyejiuwa (Chairman), Mrs. Angela Nkwo-Akpolu (Secretary), and Mrs. Charity Wins (Member)—the group alerted the general public to disregard any claims or actions made by Mr. Osuji in the name of the Chapel. They emphasized that he was neither elected nor nominated to serve in any leadership capacity.

According to the notice, Mr. Osuji was suspended alongside other members of the former executive led by Mr. Chinonso Alozie for their involvement in the attempted sale of a bus donated to the Chapel by the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma. The suspension took effect on May 1, 2025.

The statement reads in part:

“We hereby notify the general public that Mr. Collins Osuji of The Guardian Newspaper is not the Chairman of the Imo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council.”

“Mr. Osuji was suspended along with others from the previous administration due to their complicity in the attempted sale of the official bus donated to the Chapel by the Imo State Government.”

“As such, Mr. Collins Osuji has no authority to represent or act on behalf of the Imo State Correspondents’ Chapel. Any claims or actions made by him in that regard are unauthorized and should be regarded as null and void.”

The notice further confirmed that the Chapel has commenced the process of electing a new executive council and urged the public and stakeholders to direct all correspondence and inquiries to the duly authorized Credentials Committee led by Mazi George Onyejiuwa.
