The Imo State Ministry of Sports and Youths Development has gone into partnership with notable Imo journalists for synergy, collaboration and promotion of sports and Youths development in the state.
Speaking to journalists who paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday, 11th June, 2024, the Imo State Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Hon Obinna Onyeocha, emphasized the need for synergy and collaboration between the ministry and the media for proper information dissemination and engagement of Imo Youths in sporting activities and developmental programmes.
The commissioner who expressed gratitude to the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, for finding him worthy to serve as commissioner in his administration, vowed to discharge his duties with commitment for the 3R government to succeed in the area of sports and Youths development in the state.
He also harped on the need for the ministry to partner with sports-loving Imolites to make the state the hub of sports and Youths development in Nigeria.
The amiable commissioner who spoke passionately about young talents discovery, said that school sports competitions and other developmental programmes would be reintroduced in the state, pointing out that catching young talents early would amount to gainful engagement on one hand and on the other hand, lead to significant reduction of youths restiveness in the state.
He therefore, called on Imo Youths to shun social vices and take full advantage of various sporting activities and developmental programmes of the 3R Government of Governor Hope Uzodinma and better their lots
In a vote of thanks, a senior journalist, Anselem Anokwute, commended the commissioner for recognizing the critical role of the media in nation building, promising that the media will not fail the ministry in it’s sincere bid to promote sports and develope youths in the state
Present during the visit were the new chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) Imo State Chapter, Cosmos Chukwuemeka of Darling FM, Owerri and members of his new executive committee, the Immediate past chairman of the association, Com. Everest Ezihie, John Nwogu, Kennedy Onwunali, Kelechi Uzoma, Dan Opara, Edison Okereke and others
