The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has recorded a major boost ahead of the 2027 general elections, raising over ₦219.7 million in cash donations to strengthen its party structure across the state.

At a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting in Owerri, party leaders and members expressed renewed confidence in the ADC’s capacity to take over governance in Imo State in 2027, from the state level down to the local government councils.

Among the top contributors was a United States–based philanthropist and indigene of Obibiezena, Owerri North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Sir Okey Amadi, who donated ₦10 million. The funds, according to the party, will be used for the procurement of operational vehicles and other critical assets to enhance the party’s performance and grassroots mobilisation.

Former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Uzoma Udenwa, while addressing party members, expressed delight at the large turnout and the calibre of personalities within the ADC. He described the gathering as a convergence of political think tanks, including Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Rt. Hon. ThankGod Ezeani, Prof. Jude Njoku, and others, noting that their presence has further strengthened the party ahead of 2027.

The meeting also witnessed an influx of new members from other political parties. Notable among them were Chief Nwa David, former Executive Chairman of the Imo State Labour Party, and Chief Mrs. Barr. Ngozi Njoku, a former Imo State Commissioners and South-East Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They, alongside several others, openly declared their decision to join the ADC as a platform for promoting good governance in Nigeria.

A major highlight of the event was the official presentation of financial donations from the party’s 27 local government councils, aimed at facilitating sustained growth and consolidation of the ADC in the state.

Earlier in his address, the Imo State Chairman of the ADC, Prof. James Okoroma, thanked party members and stakeholders for honouring the meeting, describing it as the first of its kind in 2026. He expressed appreciation to former Governors Achike Udenwa and Emeka Ihedioha, as well as former Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Engr. Gerald Irona, for their roles in strengthening the party.

Prof. Okoroma emphasised the need for adequate resources to enable the party meet its core obligations and effectively support its members, a commitment he said was assured by the state leadership and stakeholders.

In his remarks, the South-East Chairman of the ADC, Sir Bon Unachukwu, urged members to remain steadfast, honest, and transparent in order to achieve the party’s aims and objectives.

Speaking to journalists, Hon. Chief Sir Okey Amadi said he has no intention of contesting any elective position in 2027, stressing that his involvement is driven by a desire to see good governance and grassroots development take root in Nigeria.

Similarly, Chief Paul Mbadiwe, a businessman and apex leader of the ADC in Ideato North Local Government Area, said he joined the party as a credible vehicle for attracting good governance and meaningful development in Imo State. He advised the state leadership to uphold honesty, transparency, and fairness in the discharge of their duties to inspire confidence and attract more members to the party.
