POWA Imo Police Command Marks 2026 International Women’s Day with Fitness, Empowerment Activities

The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Imo State Police Command chapter, on Monday, March 9, 2026, commemorated the 2026 International Women’s Day with a series of activities focused on fitness, unity and women’s empowerment.

The event, themed as“Give to Gain,” commenced with a morning physical fitness exercise which brought together members of POWA, the Late Police Officers’ Wives Association (LAPOWA) and the Police Inspectors’ Wives Association (PIWA). The exercise was aimed at promoting healthy living, unity and solidarity among women within the police family.

Later in the day, an empowerment programme was organised to inspire and uplift participants. The programme featured motivational talks and lectures centred on leadership, women’s rights, health awareness and economic empowerment.

As part of the celebration, food items were distributed to attendees, reflecting POWA’s commitment to the welfare and support of women within the police community.

In her address, the Chairperson of POWA, Imo State chapter, Hajia Abdullahi Mariam Bosso, stressed the importance of giving back to society, supporting one another and empowering women and girls to realise their full potential, in line with the theme of the celebration.

Contributing, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, commended POWA for its dedication to the welfare and empowerment of women in the police community. He reaffirmed the Command’s support for initiatives that promote the well-being and positive contributions to the women’s growth in society.

The event was attended by senior police officers including DCP Hammajoda Barka (DCA), DCP Hamzat Abdulkadir (DC Ops) and DCP Danshuwar Abuja (DC SCID), as well as members of the various associations.

The celebration ended with a renewed commitment by POWA, LAPOWA and PIWA to continue promoting justice, equality and empowerment for women and girls.

Speaking to Newsmen POWA Imo State Secretary Mrs Princess Nnaji said that the opportunity of the World women day has provided them with the event to learn, educate members and thereafter provide food items to some of the indigent ones through the magnanimity of the Chairperson and other affluent members in the State.
She thank the members for the successful outcome of the 2026 event commemoration of the World international women’s day.
