Traders at the popular World Bank Market in Owerri, Imo State, have expressed joy and satisfaction following the election of Hon. Mrs. Tina Ugoezi as Chairman of the market.
Hon. Mrs. Ugoezi emerged victorious after a keenly contested election, defeating her two opponents by a wide margin. Traders described her victory as a breakthrough and a reflection of her popularity, leadership qualities, and commitment to improving the standard of the market. They noted that her previous tenure as market chairman was marked by notable achievements before her removal, which they attributed to political opposition linked to her affiliation with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following the announcement of the results, traders were seen celebrating, offering prayers of thanksgiving, and praising God for the return of their preferred leadership. Many eulogized Hon. Mrs. Ugoezi for her efforts during her earlier administration, citing her ability to attract opportunities to the market through her connections and mobilization skills. The celebrations were further marked by displays of appreciation and goodwill toward traders.
The election, held last Saturday, was widely described as peaceful, transparent, and credible. Traders reported that the process was conducted without harassment, intimidation, or voter molestation, allowing their preferred candidates to emerge freely.
The traders also commended Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and his team, particularly the Chairman of Owerri Municipal Council, Builder Chidiebere Emereibe, for overseeing a transparent, free, and fair election devoid of personal interests. They described Emereibe as well-suited for his position and expressed gratitude to the APC State Chairman, Hon. MacDonald Ebere, for his magnanimity and fatherly role throughout the election process.
Meanwhile, traders disclosed that celebrations are ongoing, with plans underway for a grand reception in honor of the newly elected and inaugurated executive members of the World Bank Market. Further details of the celebrations are expected to be announced soon.
