Ambassador Nkweke commended the university’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Prince Charles Mmon, for providing purposeful leadership and setting the institution on a positive course. He noted that the initiatives being put in place by the Vice-Chancellor would significantly contribute to environmental remediation and sustainable development in the region.
The statement also praised the administration of Nigeria President, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Ogoni, describing it as a landmark achievement in Africa’s pursuit of sustainable development.
As the Africa Climate Centre on SDGs, the university is expected to serve as a hub for research, innovation and capacity building in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The designation will also provide staff and students with opportunities to participate in United Nations conferences and international programmes focused on environmental protection and sustainable development.
IAWPA further pledged to facilitate visits and partnerships with international agencies and UN organisations working in the area of environmental health, to support the growth and development of the institution.
