The Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Sir Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, on Thursday joined the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, and other dignitaries to unveil and commission the newly reconstructed Anti-Kidnapping Unit (Tiger Base) Office in Owerri.

The reconstruction, initiated and executed by the Commander of the Unit, ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, marks a major milestone in the ongoing reform agenda of the Imo State Police Command aimed at promoting professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.

The new facility features modern administrative, investigative, and legal offices, as well as a Human Rights Desk, Intelligence and Interrogation Rooms, and other operational departments. Each section is equipped with state-of-the-art furniture, computers, and communication gadgets designed to enhance coordination, transparency, and service delivery.

Significantly, the detention area has been upgraded to meet humane standards, with the installation of beds, seating, ceiling fans, and a reliable water system to ensure the comfort and dignity of detainees. The investigation rooms are now fitted with CCTV cameras and digital systems to promote evidence-based and transparent investigative processes.

In his remarks, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, who represented Governor Uzodimma, commended ACP Odeyeyiwa for his commitment and innovative leadership, noting that the reconstruction aligns with the state government’s vision of strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies. He urged Imo citizens to shun crime, emphasizing that “the police station is not a place of habit but a place of correction.”

Also speaking, representatives from the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, the Council of Imo Traditional Rulers, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Owerri Branch, and community leaders praised ACP Odeyeyiwa for transforming the Unit into a model of efficiency and professionalism.

The Chairman of the NBA, Owerri Branch, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police and ACP Odeyeyiwa for establishing a dedicated Human Rights Desk within the facility, stating that the initiative would facilitate quicker legal interventions and strengthen the protection of citizens’ rights.

In his address, CP Aboki Danjuma thanked Governor Uzodimma for his unwavering support to security agencies and appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for his reform-driven leadership. He urged officers to remain steadfast in combating violent crimes while upholding justice, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. He also called on criminals in the state to embrace the Governor’s amnesty program, lay down their arms, and contribute to peace and development.

The unveiling and commissioning of the reconstructed Tiger Base stand as a testament to the ongoing transformation within the Imo State Police Command — a symbol of renewed commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the protection of human dignity.
