IMPA Concludes Two-Day Statewide Project Tour

By Anselem Anokwute, Owerri

The Imo State Newspaper Publishers Association (IMPA), in collaboration with the media team of Governor Hope Uzodimma led by Hon. Collins Opuruozo and Sir Modestus Nwamkpa has concluded a two-day comprehensive tour of ongoing and completed projects across the state on Friday, September 26, and Saturday, September 27, 2025.

The tour, which provided firsthand insight into Governor Uzodimma’s developmental blueprint, revealed a wide array of infrastructural and institutional projects that many of the visiting media professionals were previously unaware of. The exercise was described as both eye-opening and commendable, as publishers expressed surprise and admiration at the quality and scale of the governor’s interventions across key sectors.

The primary aim of the tour was to ensure that media proprietors — key players in the state’s information dissemination ecosystem — could independently verify the quality, scale, and public impact of the projects. According to IMPA members, the tour demonstrated that the Uzodimma administration is not only committed to executing quality infrastructure but also doing so in the overriding interest of the public.

Road Infrastructure Projects
The delegation inspected several major road projects including the Orlu/Mgbe/Umuchima/Akowa/Uga Road, which features a critical bridge currently under construction. Despite the rainy season and challenging topography, contractors were observed working diligently with high-quality materials — a reflection of the administration’s zero-tolerance for substandard delivery.

Other road projects visited include,
Dual carriage Orlu–Nkume and Orlu–Owerri roads,
Okporo–Omuma road and adjoining roads,
Mgbidi–Orlu road,
Awo Omama–Okwudor–Amiri road,
Mgbidi–Oguta road,
The iconic Assumpta Flyover,
Owerri–Okigwe road,
Owerri–Mbaise–Umuahia road,
Amaraku–Amauzari road,
Health and Education Sector Developments.

The team also toured the transformed Oguta General Hospital, now the ultra-modern Senator Arthur Nzeribe International Hospital fully Air conditioned. Additionally, the new University of Science and Innovation, Omuma, and the General Hospital, Omuma, were inspected.

At the Imo State Teaching Hospital, Orlu, publishers interacted with the Rector and enthusiastic medical students. The facility’s upgraded infrastructure includes a fully functional oxygen plant — reportedly the only one in the South East — and an MRI center. The oxygen plant now serves hospitals from neighboring states including Rivers, offering medical oxygen at subsidized rates. The ultra modern Intensive care Unit (ICU) and the Emergency Infectious Disease Control Center ongoing work directly opposite the St. Camilius Chaplaincy and the Anglican Church as the Project Manager Engr Alex Nwanguma promised timely delivery to boast the State health facilities.

Industrial and Power Sector Visits

The tour also featured a visit to the new Orashi Power Plant in Ohaji, the revitalized Adapalm industrial complex, and the Palm Produce Processing Plant. The Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre and the ongoing remodeling of Concorde-Nicon Hotel, Owerri, were also highlights of the trip.

At Obinze, the Orashi Mobita Substation Plant was assessed as part of the state’s broader energy infrastructure push.

IMPA members expressed deep admiration for the governor’s achievements, with many labeling the tour a “voyage of discovery.” Several publishers noted that Governor Uzodimma had quietly outperformed expectations was under reported by his media handlers who are recently waking up and should be acknowledged as one of the most project driven governors in Nigeria aligning in commendations with the recent award as the Infrastructure Governor of the Year.

In their collective view, the visit underscored the importance of engaging media stakeholders directly in governance assessment, recommending that similar tours be extended to more members of both traditional and digital media platforms across the state.
