In a commendable act of community service, Comrade Chidiebere Iwuoha, Imo State Correspondent for Blueprint Newspapers, has donated writing materials to students of Umueze Secondary School and Umueze Ogwa High School in Ogwa, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The gesture, which took place last Thursday, was carried out under the auspices of the Eleazar Iwuoha Foundation, a pet project named in honour of his late father, Councillor Eleazar Nwadike Iwuoha. The elder Iwuoha served as a councillor in the Mbaitoli LGA Legislative Council until his death in 1983 during the administration of the late Governor Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe.
Students received customized exercise books and pens, aimed at encouraging learning and improving academic performance. In a further move to promote literary excellence, the foundation also launched the Eleazar Iwuoha Best Writer Award, an annual competition designed to stimulate interest in creative and academic writing among students. Winners of the award will receive cash prizes and other educational materials.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Iwuoha emphasized the importance of education in community development and expressed hope that the initiative would inspire students to take their studies more seriously.
It is worth noting that the Eleazar Iwuoha Foundation has previously engaged in charitable acts, including providing food, clothing, and financial support to the less privileged. However, the focus has now shifted to academic empowerment as a long-term investment in the community’s future.
Teachers and students expressed joy and appreciation during the distribution exercise. Many praised the initiative and offered prayers for the continued success and good health of the founder.
