Owerri Zone Ready to Continue Governor Uzodimma’s Legacy – Capt. Ihenacho

The convener of the Owerri Zone Sociopolitical Forum, Imo Harmony Project (IHP), and former Minister of Internal Affairs, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, has expressed confidence that the Owerri Zone is fully prepared to carry on with the legacies of Governor Hope Uzodimma in the 2027 succession Equity policy.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with leaders, stakeholders, and members of the Imo Harmony Project at his country home in Ezeogba, Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Ihenacho reaffirmed that Governor Uzodimma had consistently indicated his support for any candidate who would uphold his progressive vision for Imo State and Owerri Zone has good number of such individuals.

Ihenacho praised the governor for his statement, clarifying that Uzodimma had never contradicted himself, and that the governor’s commitment to backing a successor who would continue his good works had only strengthened Owerri Zone’s resolve to take the leadership of the state in 2027.

He also criticized opposition elements attempting to distort the governor’s words in a bid to create confusion or undermine the peace and unity of the state.

The Elderly statesman further outlined the mission of the Imo Harmony Project, which advocates for equity, justice, and fairness in Imo State’s power-sharing arrangements. He noted that while Orlu Zone has held power for 24 years and Okigwe Zone for 9 years, Owerri Zone has yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state, underscoring the need for the region to take its rightful turn in 2027.

“We firmly believe that Owerri Zone has qualified, capable sons and daughters who can effectively lead the state,” Ihenacho said. “Our insistence is that an Owerri indigene, regardless of party affiliation, must emerge as the next governor of Imo State.”

In their earlier remarks, Dr. Share Azu, Hon. Chimdi Ejiogu, and Chief Barrister Soronnadi Njoku, SAN. all reiterated the importance of unity among the three zones and emphasized the determination of Owerri Zone to ensure that all political parties align behind a candidate from the region in the 2027 gubernatorial race.

To further mobilize support, the publicity unit presented stickers to the group, encouraging residents of Owerri Zone to display them on vehicles, doorposts, and iron entrance gates as a sign of solidarity in the quest for an Owerri Zone governor in 2027.
Those present at the meeting includes, Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Chief Mrs Kema Chikwe, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, Chief Mrs Maria Mbakwe Former PDP Woman Leader and many others.
