Staff of the Imo State Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), located at Douglas Road in Owerri Municipal Council, organized a surprise birthday celebration for the State Chairman, Hon. Comrade Jeff Eze, on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
Comrade Eze, who also serves as the Coordinator of the Government Liaison Office (GLO) in the state, is known for spending his birthdays in quiet reflection and prayer. However, this year, the workers conspired to honor him with a surprise party, citing his selfless leadership and dedication to the union.
The union workers described their action as a gesture of gratitude for the Chairman’s unwavering commitment to unity, peace, and progress within the union and beyond. After the celebration, they proceeded to distribute food and beverages to the less privileged at Douglas Road near St. Paul’s Catholic Parish, Owerri.
In a brief remark during the celebration, Hon. Jeff Eze expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the staff.
“I thank God for adding another year to my life today. I am sincerely grateful to the wonderful staff at our secretariat for organizing this surprise. Normally, I spend my birthday indoors, reflecting on the past and praying for the future. This gesture has truly touched me,” he said.
“My message to all members of the Imo State chapter of NURTW is simple: unity, peace, and love. That is the foundation of progress.”
He further emphasized that his leadership under the Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma’s appointment is a reformation one focused on ensuring that road transport workers in the state remain united and secure, both in their daily activities and overall welfare.
“We are introducing programs to uplift our members, such as statewide football tournaments and monthly family get-togethers to foster unity and friendship across the union,” he added.
Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Comrade Alvan Opara, described Hon. Jeff Eze as an honest and visionary leader.
“His dedication and sincerity are what inspired this celebration. He has transformed the union’s operations across all 27 local government areas and has streamlined membership data management. We’re proud to work under his leadership.”
The event highlighted the deep appreciation of the workers for a leader they say has not only modernized the union’s activities but also uplifted its members through inclusive and innovative initiatives.
