Tension in Imo Oil Communities.; NDDC Commissioner Kyrian Uchegbu’s Conduct Raises dusts.

Owerri, Imo State – Tension is mounting In oil-producing communities Imo State following allegations of favoritism and mismanagement leveled against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Commissioner representing IMO state, Hon. Kyrian Uchegbu.

at the center of the controversy is accused of manipulating the original list of beneficiaries for the recently held NDDC Youth and Women Empowerment Conference at the Landmark Event Centre in Owerri.
According to community leaders, the commissioner sidelined legitimate participants in favor of personal associates and individuals from non-NDDC host communities.
Speaking to reporters, a prominent youth leader ,Prince Wisdom Nwauwa of Ndiolukwu Autonomous Community in Oguta Local Government Area described Uchegbu’s appointment as a “costly mistake” by Governor Hope Uzodimma.
“This is not personal,” Nwauwa emphasized. “It’s the collective outcry of oil-producing communities in Imo State. Hon. Kyrian Uchegbu has consistently demonstrated a disregard for transparency, accountability, and inclusion.”
He accused Uchegbu of prioritizing personal gain over public service and called for his immediate removal to protect the integrity of the governor’s administration and its Shared Prosperity agenda. Kyrian Uchegbu descended so low , abandoning his responsibility only to jump into the Event , took over the official list, switching in a substituted one .
“The governor has shown goodwill by appointing him, even for a third term,” Nwauwa continued. “But that goodwill is being squandered. The 2024 Christmas and New Year empowerment packages meant for our people were mishandled, leaving widespread dissatisfaction.”
The uproar has intensified calls from community stakeholders for Governor Uzodimma to reconsider Uchegbu’s continued role in his administration, with many fearing that the commissioner’s actions could undermine the state government’s developmental efforts in the region.
Meanwhile, efforts to speak with
the NDDC nor Hon. Uchegbu proved abortive for has his response to the allegations at the time of this report.
