Tragedy struck in Ossemotor Autonomous Community, Oguta LGA, Imo State, as unknown gunmen ambushed and killed and burnt two community vigilantes members last night.
The vigilantes according to the report were returning to their base in Ossemotor Oguta from Egbuoma when they were attacked, resulting in the death of two officers and the burning of their vehicles. Others escaped with injuries.
The Traditional Ruler, Eze Cajethan Okafor, expressed sadness and disappointment, but declined to comment further.
Imo Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danguma, has deployed a police tactical team to the area to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure public safety.
The police condemned the killing of innocent citizens and urged the public to provide useful information leading to the arrest of the hoodlums.
“We are already in the issue currently and the CP has deployed Police tactical team to the area in synergy with other security personnel to get those involved and ensure that justice is achieved at the end of the day. We only need support of the public to achieve success”.
