The Imo State Security Data Capture and Painting Committee has condemned the proliferation of fake and duplicated vehicle plate numbers in the state.
Chairman of the committee, Elder Anaelechi Ukawune, expressed dissatisfaction over the issue and displayed over 150 indicted vehicle plates collected from offenders.
He stated that the committee, in collaboration with neighboring states, has identified duplicated plate numbers used in Imo and other states.
Ukawune called on the Chairman of the Imo State Board of Internal Revenue to flush out quacks and plate number racketeers, and received approval from the Imo State Police Command to rid the state of fake plate number operators.
He advised vehicle users to process their documents and plate numbers within the Board of Internal Revenue Office to avoid patronizing fake operators outside.
The committee, in conjunction with the police, will invade areas where fake plate numbers are being duplicated and fake motor papers are being sold.
Ukawune warned racketeers to desist, as the committee has received approval from the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, to rid the state of the racketeers and ensure security.
Expressing happiness, some Drivers in the State commended the Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma for the reinstatement of Elder Anaelechi Ukawune (Obowo) for the position as the Chairman Imo State Security Data Capture and Painting Committee.
Blaming those non captured, Data and painted vehicles to be the pioneers and carriers of the duplicated vehicle plate numbers as those scrutinized data captured and painted are not involved in the recent arrest vehicles with fake plates number.
