ADC South East Ends Retreat Resolves On job Creations, Revamp LGAS System

African Democratic Congress (ADC) South East at the end of the South East Zonal Leadership Retreat held on Wednesday 17th April, 2024 at Awka Anambra State harps on the need to revamp the local government administrations and use the duely Democratic elected person to create meaningful job opportunity to the teeming unemployed.
Speaking National Vice Chairman South East, ADC, Hon. Chilos Godsent said following the robust deliberation by delegates from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States respectively at the historic 2024 South East Zonal Leadership Retreat organized by the Zonal Working Committee (ZWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) South East.
The Zonal Leadership Retreat was designed to deliberate on numerous issues bordering on the performance of ADC in South East within the last ten years and the State of South East particularly on the quality of governance in South East Region.
According to him in view of the above, the meeting resolved as follows,
1. The meeting noted that an ideal mind is a devils workshop; as a result, the high level of Youth unemployment in South East Region which has assumed a dangerous dimension is threat to peace and stability in the region. The meeting asserted that youth unemployment is a major driver of crimes, cultism, drug abuse and addiction including the ravaging insecurity in the region.
2. The meeting therefore condemns in strong term the deliberate failure of respective Governors of the five States in South East to conduct Local Government Council Election in their respective States even when the Governors are products of election. The meeting asserted that lack of the existence of democratic Local Government System in South East Region is one of the major factors driving insecurity in the region. ADC noted that a democratic Local Government System in each of the state has the capacity to provide meaningful employment for at least ten thousand (10,000) youths per state who are likely to occupy the position of Local Government Chairmen and their deputies, Councilors, Supervisory councilors. Personal Assistants, Special Assistants, including many youths who are going to be contractors to the Local Government Council etc. More so, a Democratic Local Government System will help promote Community Development.
3. Consequent upon the, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) South East hereby give the South East Governors six (60) days from today to reconstitute, fund and mandate the respective State Independent Electoral Commission to publish the timetable for Local Government Council Election in their respective states of risk a Legal Action. This is because the non existence of Democratic Local Government system violates Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
