The Action Peoples Party (APP) has intensified efforts to expand its political foothold in Imo State, pledging transparent leadership, accountability and a departure from what it described as “business-as-usual” governance.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri, the Acting Chairman of APP in Imo State, Hon. Ernest Njesi, said the party is committed to restoring public confidence in governance through credible leadership and people-oriented policies.

Njesi described APP as a platform anchored on transparency and accountability, stressing that it is poised to offer the people of Imo State and Nigerians at large an alternative to what he termed the “misguided leadership” of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, APP possesses the structure and political will to challenge the status quo and reposition governance in the country, alleging that the nation’s economy has suffered due to poor management and misinformation.

The state chairman assured that elected officials under the party’s platform would be held accountable to their campaign promises, adding that such commitment would reinforce the principle that power ultimately resides with the electorate.

He further disclosed that the party is developing pragmatic solutions to the socio-economic challenges facing both the state and the nation, with a focus on policies that prioritise the welfare of ordinary citizens.

Njesi, an indigene of Ideato, revealed that APP currently has representation in the National Assembly and is working with experienced leaders and technocrats to formulate programmes capable of driving sustainable development.

He called for the support and cooperation of Imo residents, lamenting that the political class in the state has not done enough to improve governance.

On the party’s readiness for upcoming political activities, Njesi said APP is strengthening its structures across the state and expressed confidence that it has the capacity to form the next government in Imo.

He also announced that the party’s congresses would hold next month in line with the Electoral Act, while ongoing electronic registration of members is being conducted across the 305 electoral wards in the state.

Earlier, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Cajethan Duke, told journalists that members of the state executive committee are seasoned professionals and technocrats committed to delivering on the party’s mandate.

He listed key members of the caretaker committee to include Hon. Engr. Emeka Onwukwe (Secretary), Engr. Ernest Ezim (Okigwe Zonal Chairman), Engr. Henry Alaribe (Owerri Zonal Chairman), Hon. Peter Etoh (Treasurer), and Barr. Uche Nwosu (Legal Adviser).
