2027: Eligwe Emerges ADP Candidate for Oru East/Orsu/Orlu Federal Constituency, Benefits to the Deprived Block
Former Imo SDGs Adviser Pledges People-Oriented Representation, Economic Empowerment
Former Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Humanitarian Services, Eligwe Christina Ijeoma, has emerged as the candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for the Oru East/Orsu/Orlu Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Eligwe’s name appears among female candidates listed for the 2027 House of Representatives election by recent reports citing the electoral process.
Eligwe Promises Action-Oriented Representation
Speaking on her emergence, Eligwe said her aspiration was driven by the desire to provide effective, responsive and people-oriented representation to the people of Oru East, Orsu and Orlu Local Government Areas.
She said her experience in public service had exposed her to the socio-economic challenges confronting families and vulnerable members of society, stressing that she would bring that experience to bear if elected.
According to her, her proposed representation would focus on practical initiatives aimed at economic empowerment, improved livelihoods and social development across the constituency.
She said creating opportunities that would enable families to improve their sources of income and put food on their tables would remain among her areas of priority.
From SDGs Office to Federal Constituency Contest
Eligwe previously served as Special Adviser to the Imo State Government on Sustainable Development Goals and Humanitarian Services, where she was involved in programmes and interventions relating to social development, poverty reduction and humanitarian assistance.
During her tenure, she was associated with social investment initiatives including the Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), Home-Grown School Feeding Programme and N-Power, among other National Social Investment Programme interventions in Imo State.
Her experience in those areas, she said, has given her a deeper understanding of the challenges confronting low-income families and vulnerable communities.
Eligwe Highlights Academic, Development Background
Eligwe’s academic and professional background spans accounting, development and public administration.
She holds a degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland, United States, as well as a Master’s degree. Her professional profile also includes involvement in Sustainable Development Goals initiatives and international development activities.
She has also been associated with United Nations-related development activities through her non-governmental organisation, Reading Hamlets.
With experience cutting across accounting, economic development, public administration, social development and humanitarian services, Eligwe is taking her development-oriented experience into the 2027 political contest.
‘Leadership Is About Serving the People’
Speaking on her philosophy of leadership, Eligwe said public office should fundamentally be about service to the people and not personal interest.
She maintained that servant leadership was not about serving oneself but about serving the people who elected a representative.
According to her, the responsibility of an elected representative is to remain responsive to the needs of the people and pursue initiatives capable of improving their welfare.
2027 Contest Gathers Momentum
Her emergence comes as political activities continue to gather momentum across Oru East, Orsu and Orlu, with aspirants and candidates expected to present their programmes, experience and credentials before the electorate.
For Eligwe, the 2027 election provides an opportunity to translate her experience in public service and development work into legislative representation, with emphasis on economic empowerment, social intervention and improved opportunities for constituents.
