Nkwa chikwere Amatta, Sues for Peace in Amatta Autonomous Community in Ikeduru,Says Unity Key to Development

A community leader and philanthropist in Amatta Autonomous Community, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Chief Macaulay Nnamdi Elekwachi, popularly known as Nkwa Chikwere Amatta, has called for peace, unity and harmony among the people of the community, saying sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.
Chief Elekwachi made the appeal while advising his kinsmen to remain committed to ongoing efforts aimed at resolving the disagreements and divisions within the community.
He said internal division could only retard the growth of Amatta, while unity and collective action would create the foundation for meaningful development.
The community leader also appealed to the traditional ruler of Amatta Autonomous Community, HRH Eze John Onuekwusi, a retired senior police officer, to deploy his wealth of experience in conflict management and leadership towards strengthening peace and reconciliation among the people.
According to him, the lingering disagreement in the community, particularly over the alleged involvement of the Imo State Government in a parcel of land said to belong to the community, should not be allowed to create permanent division among the people.
Chief Elekwachi maintained that while the people had legitimate concerns over the land issue, such concerns should be pursued through lawful and peaceful channels rather than allowing them to degenerate into confrontation, counter-accusations and division.
He noted that the people of Amatta had a long-standing reputation for peace and unity and should therefore avoid actions capable of destroying the communal bonds that had held them together.
He further urged the parties involved in the various disputes and court matters to consider alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms, including dialogue and out-of-court settlement, where legally appropriate.
Chief Elekwachi said Amatta was blessed with highly educated, experienced and accomplished individuals who could contribute meaningfully to resolving the community’s challenges and ensuring that the people speak with one voice on matters affecting their collective interests.
He stressed that disagreements should not be allowed to overshadow the need for development, noting that peace remained a critical foundation for attracting investment, empowering young people, improving infrastructure and advancing the welfare of residents.
Speaking on his vision for the community, Chief Elekwachi, who is an NDC aspirant for the 2027 Imo State House of Assembly election, said his commitment was to promote inclusive grassroots development and leadership that would unite rather than divide the people.
“We need our people and we need absolute peace for development. What I stand for in the community as Nkwa Chikwere Amatta is to build bridges that will promote even grassroots development and good leadership, and we shouldn’t allow political sentiments to divide us”. he said.
He therefore appealed to all stakeholders, traditional institutions, community leaders, youths and other concerned citizens to place the collective interest of Amatta above personal differences and work together towards restoring lasting peace and harmony in the community.
