Coalition of Orlu Zone Journalists Names Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu Best Performing Federal Lawmaker
A coalition of practicing journalists from Orlu Zone has declared the member representing Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Canice Moore Nwachukwu (Omeogo), as the best performing national lawmaker from Orlu Zone, citing his legislative productivity, effective oversight functions and constituency development initiatives.
The declaration was made during a press conference held in Owerri on Saturday by the Coalition of Orlu Zone Media Practitioners after what it described as a comprehensive assessment of the performances of members representing the four federal constituencies in Orlu Senatorial Zone.
Addressing journalists, the Chairman of the coalition, Comrade Oloko Reginald, said the evaluation was based on objective and verifiable criteria, including legislative output, oversight responsibilities, constituency representation, empowerment programmes and the execution of constituency projects.
According to him, the assessment involved consultations with community leaders, civil society organisations, stakeholders, beneficiaries of constituency projects and independent observers across the zone.
He said the outcome of the exercise showed that Hon. Nwachukwu distinguished himself through consistent legislative performance, quality representation and visible developmental interventions, earning him the coalition’s recognition in 2025, as a “Legislator Par Excellence.”
The coalition also dismissed an earlier performance rating reportedly released by another group, describing it as lacking professional methodology and objectivity. It maintained that its own findings were evidence-based and reflected the realities on the ground.
The journalists noted that beyond his annual empowerment programmes, which they described as among the most impactful in Imo State, Hon. Nwachukwu has sponsored motions, actively participated in parliamentary debates and attracted federal interventions to his constituency through effective legislative advocacy.
The coalition further commended his leadership as Chairman of the House Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs, saying he has effectively promoted cooperation among the three tiers of government while discharging his oversight responsibilities to ensure transparency, accountability and effective implementation of government programmes.
It also credited the lawmaker with facilitating employment opportunities for qualified youths from his constituency into various federal establishments, thereby contributing to human capital development and reducing unemployment.
On infrastructure, the coalition listed several projects facilitated by the federal lawmaker, including classroom blocks, solar-powered boreholes, high-intensity solar streetlights and other intervention projects across Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Local Government Areas. According to the group, the projects have improved access to potable water, enhanced security and contributed to socio-economic development in the constituency.
The coalition further praised Hon. Nwachukwu’s contributions as a member of the ECOWAS Parliament, stating that his performance at the regional legislature has projected the image of Orlu Zone, Imo State and Nigeria through effective legislative engagement and quality representation.
While congratulating the lawmaker on the recognition, the coalition urged him to sustain his commitment to people-oriented legislation, effective oversight and quality representation.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to objective journalism, insisting that it would continue to undertake evidence-based assessments, promote excellence in public service and hold elected officials accountable in the interest of democracy and good governance.
