The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial hopeful for Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone), Prince Alex Mbata, has congratulated the people of Owerri Zone and Imo State on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, while reaffirming his commitment to promoting the ideals of democracy and delivering quality representation if elected to the Senate in 2027.
Speaking during a media interaction with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Prince Mbata expressed appreciation to the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma for what he described as remarkable infrastructural development and people-oriented projects across the state.
According to him, the governor’s numerous achievements in road construction, rural development, and other critical sectors have set a standard worthy of emulation by aspiring leaders who genuinely desire to improve the welfare of the people.
He noted that while Democracy Day is a moment for celebration, it also presents an opportunity for reflection on the nation’s challenges, including insecurity, economic hardship, and the rising cost of living.
“Democracy is not only about elections but also about collective responsibility. Despite the challenges confronting our nation, we must remain hopeful and committed to building a better society. Positive change begins with each one of us,” he said.
Prince Mbata commended Governor Uzodimma for his visionary leadership and urged citizens to continue supporting government efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development through prayers and work.
“We must continue to pray for our leaders and support policies that will advance the peace and prosperity of our state and nation. National development requires the collective efforts of both leaders and citizens,” he stated.
Describing himself as a proud son of Owerri Zone and a passionate advocate for grassroots development, Mbata said he has consistently invested in initiatives that improve the lives of ordinary people and empower communities.
He maintained that serving in the Senate would provide him with a broader platform to attract developmental projects, create opportunities for the people, and strengthen democratic governance in the zone.
The APC chieftain further called on residents of Imo State to embrace attitudinal change, patriotism, and a renewed commitment to nation-building.
Drawing from his experiences during several empowerment programmes, he emphasized the importance of protecting opportunities meant for the less privileged.
“It is wrong for privileged individuals to hijack benefits designed for vulnerable members of society. Development can only be meaningful when resources and opportunities reach those who genuinely need them,” he said.
Prince Mbata also urged journalists to continue upholding the ethics of their profession by promoting truth, objectivity, and responsible reporting in line with constitutional provisions.
He concluded by expressing optimism that the 2026 Democracy Day celebration would usher in greater peace, unity, and progress for Imo State and Nigeria as a whole.
“I remain committed to ensuring that the people of Owerri Zone enjoy the true dividends of democracy. By the grace of God and with the support of our people, I will work tirelessly to justify their trust and deliver effective representation in 2027,” Mbata stated.
