UCHE PERRY EKWUNAZU: A CONSISTENT COMMUNITY LEADER NOT A QUADRIENNIAL POLITICIAN

BY Anselem Anokwute

The recent attempt to portray Chief Uche Perry Ekwunazu (Odogwu Njaba) as an inconsistent politician who only appears during election periods is not only misleading but a deliberate distortion of the true character, contributions and political journey of a man who has remained deeply connected to his people and committed to the development of Njaba.

Contrary to the false narrative being circulated, Chief Uche Perry Ekwunazu is not a “reluctant politician” or a political opportunist. He is a respected leader, philanthropist and grassroots mobilizer whose impact within and outside the political space has remained visible, consistent and widely acknowledged over the years.

Politics is not merely about occupying public office. True leadership is measured by continuous service, accessibility to the people and commitment to community development — values Chief Perry has consistently demonstrated even outside elective positions.

It is therefore unfair and intellectually dishonest for anyone to suggest that his involvement in politics only resurfaces every four years. The records are clear. Chief Uche Perry Ekwunazu has remained actively involved in the welfare of his people through empowerment initiatives, humanitarian support, youth encouragement, community interventions and political consultations aimed at advancing the collective interest of Njaba people including promotion of the People’s culture.

Unlike career politicians who disappear completely after elections, Chief Perry has continued to maintain close relationships with his constituents and community stakeholders. His doors have remained open to the people, and his contributions to social and community development speak louder than politically motivated propaganda.

It is also important to state that taking time to reassess strategies, gain more experience and return better prepared for leadership should never be mistaken for inconsistency. In every democratic society, individuals reserve the constitutional right to contest elections whenever they feel adequately prepared and called to serve. That is not opportunism — it is democracy.

The attempt to criminalize Chief Perry’s periodic participation in politics is simply an attempt to discourage credible voices and independent-minded leaders from contributing to governance. Ironically, those pushing this narrative are uncomfortable with the growing acceptance, popularity and grassroots appeal Chief Perry continues to enjoy among the people and not political push overs and detractors who collect peanuts for the people collective interest.

Chief Uche Perry Ekwunazu represents resilience, maturity and political evolution. Rather than abandoning his people, he has consistently used every available platform to advocate for better governance, empowerment and opportunities for the youth and vulnerable members of society.

His supporters do not rally around him because of empty promises or seasonal appearances. They support him because they recognize his sincerity, accessibility and genuine concern for the wellbeing of ordinary people. His leadership qualities, humility and unwavering connection with the grassroots remain the reasons many continue to identify with his vision.

The truth remains that no serious political figure can remain relevant in public discourse for years without earning the trust and confidence of the people. Chief Perry’s continued prominence in political conversations is not accidental; it is a reflection of his enduring influence and the respect he commands across Njaba and beyond.

Those attempting to reduce his political journey to a “cycle of abandonment and return” have clearly ignored the realities on ground and the numerous positive contributions he has made over the years. Leadership is not defined by media attacks or propaganda but by impact, service and the ability to inspire hope among the people.

Chief Uche Perry Ekwunazu remains focused, committed and prepared to continue serving humanity and contributing meaningfully to the progress of Njaba.

No amount of blackmail, misrepresentation or politically sponsored narratives can diminish the goodwill, credibility and acceptance he enjoys among the people.

History will always remember leaders who stood with their people — and Chief Uche Perry Ekwunazu has consistently done exactly that.
