APP Deregistration: Ngoforo Faults Ugochinyere’s Claims as “Akokwa Wonders”
..Insists Party Faces Imminent Delisting

By Our Reporter

The Civic Action for Democracy (CAD) has dismissed claims by Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu regarding the legal status of the Action Peoples Party (APP), describing the documents he circulated as misleading and irrelevant to ongoing court proceedings and described it as a Philomena of “Akokwa Wonders”

Addressing a press conference in Owerri on Tuesday, Executive Director of CAD, Mazi Franklin Ngoforo, said the materials being paraded by the lawmaker do not invalidate the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deregistration of APP in February 2020, which was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court in March 2022.

Ngoforo maintained that no valid court order exists restraining INEC from removing APP from its register, stressing that the party’s continued participation in electoral activities lacks legal backing.

According to him, the suit before the Federal High Court seeks to compel INEC to formally delist APP, insisting that the outcome is inevitable based on existing constitutional provisions and judicial precedents.

He warned politicians and members of the public against associating with the party, noting that “propaganda cannot override constitutional law.”

CAD further stated that its legal action is anchored on key issues, including the 2020 deregistration of APP by INEC, the Supreme Court’s affirmation of that action, and the absence of any verifiable court order justifying the party’s continued listing.

The group described recent court documents cited by Ugochinyere as “irrelevant and misleading,” arguing that they do not address the substantive issues in the pending case.

Reaffirming its commitment to electoral integrity, CAD expressed confidence that the court would uphold its position and order the removal of APP from INEC’s register.
