Rivers Crisis: Nkweke Calls for Immediate Halt to Impeachment, Seeks Dialogue, Reconciliation

By Amb. Anselem Anokwute

The International Spokesman of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), Ambassador, Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke, has appealed for an immediate suspension of the ongoing impeachment process in Rivers State, urging political stakeholders to embrace dialogue and reconciliation in the interest of peace and stability.

Ambassador Nkweke, a prominent peace advocate with experience in global conflict resolution, expressed deep concern over the escalating political tension in the state, describing the situation as a complex crisis that threatens democratic governance and social harmony.

“I cannot fold my hands while my home state continues to be engulfed in a complicated and avoidable political crisis,” he stated.

According to him, the prevailing political atmosphere in Rivers State requires restraint, wisdom, and collective responsibility from all actors involved. He stressed that political disagreements should be resolved through constructive engagement rather than actions capable of deepening divisions and instability.

As part of ongoing efforts to mediate peace, Ambassador Nkweke disclosed plans to engage key stakeholders across political, traditional, and religious institutions. These include the Chairman and members of the Rivers State Traditional Council, leaders of the Christian and Muslim communities, the Speaker and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, as well as the Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Dr. Godknows Igali, among others.

“We must place the interest of Rivers State and Nigeria above personal or partisan considerations. This is the time for all parties to sheath their swords and work together towards reconciliation and lasting peace,” he said.

Ambassador Nkweke also called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, and other national leaders to lend their voices and influence in appealing for calm and dialogue in the state, noting that peace in Rivers State is critical to the stability of the Niger Delta and the nation at large.

He reaffirmed the readiness of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) to deploy its expertise in mediation and conflict resolution to support all genuine efforts aimed at peacefully resolving the crisis.

“Peace is not an option; it is a necessity. Rivers State deserves stability, unity, and progress,” he added.
