The Imo State chapter of the National Association of Electronic Media Presenters of Nigeria (NAEMPON) at the weekend rolled out the drums in Owerri as it honoured distinguished technocrats and entrepreneurs for their outstanding contributions to the development of the state. Among those celebrated were the General Manager of the Eastern Waste Management Company (EWAMAC), Hon. Ugochukwu Aghazie, and the founder of AiFy Aluminum, Chief Engr. Ifeanyi Attan Nwagwu, alongside several other personalities.
The honourees received various categories of awards, including the *Great Achievers Award* and the *Great Entrepreneur Award*, in recognition of their professional excellence, leadership qualities, and commitment to the growth of Imo State.
According to NAEMPON, the awards were instituted to acknowledge individuals whose dedication to public service, environmental sustainability, industrial development, and community advancement continues to shape the socio-economic landscape of the state.
The colourful ceremony, held at Rockview Hotel, Owerri, attracted top government officials, media executives, captains of industry, traditional rulers, community leaders and civil society groups, all of whom gathered to celebrate excellence and service to humanity. The atmosphere was electrifying as recipients were repeatedly applauded for their visible impact in their various sectors.
Speaking during the event, the President of NAEMPON, Comrade Jerry Osuji, said the association arrived at its choice of awardees after a thorough review of their contributions to state development. He praised the EWAMAC General Manager for his unwavering efforts in ensuring cleanliness across Owerri and other parts of the state, describing Aghazie’s track record in environmental sanitation as “consistent, measurable and widely acknowledged by residents and visitors.”
Osuji also lauded Engr. Ifeanyi Nwagwu, founder of AiFy Aluminum, for his role in boosting industrial activity in the state, supporting local manufacturing and sustaining employment opportunities for youths. According to him, the honourees stand out as role models whose commitment to excellence deserves to be celebrated.
The NAEMPON President further commended EWAMAC under Aghazie’s leadership and the industrial strides of AiFy Aluminum, noting that their contributions have helped reduce environmental hazards, improve public health and promote a cleaner, more investor-friendly state.
He stressed that the cleanliness and overall environment of any state are a reflection of the effectiveness of its leadership, adding that a clean environment attracts tourists, investors, development partners and accelerates economic growth. Osuji urged residents to complement the efforts of government agencies by adopting sanitation as a civic responsibility rather than leaving it solely to the authorities.
In their separate remarks, Hon. Ugochukwu Aghazie and Engr. Ifeanyi Nwagwu expressed deep gratitude to NAEMPON for the recognition. They described the honour as a call to greater service and assured that they would continue to contribute meaningfully to the environmental and industrial transformation of Imo State.
While appreciating the media body for its professionalism and support, the awardees pledged to sustain their efforts toward promoting a cleaner, safer environment and strengthening the state’s industrial base. They maintained that the recognition would further motivate them to intensify their commitment to development initiatives that will benefit residents across the state.
The event also witnessed additional awards to other notable personalities who have distinguished themselves in various fields, making the ceremony one of the most impactful recognitions by NAEMPON in recent years.
