Amuneke Remains Best For Nigeria, No Sentiments

Senegal appointed former player Aliou Cisse as manager of the Teranga Lions after a successful stint with the national youth team.

England appointed former player Gareth Southgate as the national team manager after he managed the youth team and won them a title in 2016.

Spain appointed former player Luis De La Fuente as Spanish National Team coach after working with the youth teams and winning trophies for the U17 and U19 teams.

Notice something here – all these former players worked with the youth teams and had a succesful tenure then the football associations trusted them.

But here comes Nigeria:

The last manager to lead the Nigerian under 17 National Team to a FIFA World Cup triumph was Emmanuel Amuneke – he is also credited for discovering most of the stars in the current Super Eagles squad. He is also an ex national team player.

What did Nigeria do – They have ignored giving him a chance and instead for some reason went for Finidi George who didn’t have a quarter the experience of Amunike. The same Finidi they wanted to trust – they ended up pressuring him to resign.

It is always different with Nigeria.
Nigerian Football Federation – well done.
