A renowned traditional pressure group in Igbo Land under the aegis of Ogbako Nde Nze, Imo State Chapter, has sought for government supportive measures to enable the end to Yahoo practice, ritual killings, kidnapping and other violent criminal activities in the state.
It will be recalled since Ogbako Nde Nze was relegated to the background violent activities have taken centre stage in imo and in Igboland in general.
Rising from its monthly meeting at Owerri, the group decried the relegation of an important traditional group like itself and called on the government of the day to recognize it like other recognized traditional groups as the only effective way violent crimes would be curbed.
Speaking to newsmen , the Coordinator, Nze Emmanuel Patrick Ejionyeabala, disclosed that the membership of the group spread across the 27 local government areas of the state who had always helped the traditional rulers in ruling their communities.
Nze Ejionyeabala who wondered why the government had not recognised the group despite it’s role in maintaining peace and order in the communities added that Nde Nze in the society would be more effective and efficient if recognised.
‘Nde Nze are known for saying the truth, they speak against ills in the society. Ills multiplied since we were relegated to the background.
‘We will stop yahoo, ritual killings, kidnapping and other violent crimes only if the state government recognised and gives us support’,he added
Contributing, the secretary, Nze Charles Nkwocha revealed that nze title is hereditary and not fetish adding an Nze is the person that holds the real authority to correct ills in the society. He called on the government to embrace the group since their members are closer to the people than any other traditional stool. According to him government recognition will enbold them towards correcting the ills in the society.
