The Coalition of All APC Women Support Groups is encouraging women to participate more actively in politics and governance.
During a sensitization visit in Owerri on Saturday, 1 June, 2024 , the National Coordinator, Dr. Oluchi Erondu, re-emphasized the benefits of women’s participation in politics, including political empowerment, eradication of gender discrimination, access to financial support, and raising a strong voice for women.
She noted that, investing in women’s education and empowerment has a positive impact on society, leading to reduced poverty, improved healthcare, and increased prosperity.
Barr. Chilaka Igidi, the legal adviser, stressed that women’s participation in politics and governance is crucial for developing equitable policies and achieving gender equality.
She emphasized more on the contributions of Imo Women towards the last election and the success of All Progressive Congress Candidate Senator Hope Uzodimma who gave women a juice slot by taking a woman as his Deputy Governor at polls to the support from the Imo State women that came out enmasse to vote for the governor.
While Dr. Lady Uche Obi, a director in the group, highlighted the need for political education for women, as many are unaware of the political process or how to achieve their goals. The group aims to educate, train, and empower women to make them relevant in the political system, starting in the southeast and eventually expanding to other zones, with a final convergence in Abuja to roll out their plans.
In her response, a National Officer for the Group and Former Special Adviser to the governor. Hon. Mrs Izuchi Duru expressed happiness with the members of the group in Imo State and pointed out that, the Association are women with forthright vision and integrity to ensure that the women folks and not behind in the issues of contributions to good governance as majority of their members are those women who have contested one election or the other in the past and want to bring to the fore their knowledge and manifestos to help the government to grow the society.
According to her, the women should be giving the enablement to compete favourably with the men by devoid of gender discrimination and intimidation. Provide adequate protection, education and financial assistance by the government.
