Prince Eze Madumere Inaugurates PDP Owerri Zone Senatorial Campaign Council, Declares 2027: ‘No Turning Back’
By Anselem Anokwute
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally commenced its campaign mobilisation in Imo East Senatorial District, with its senatorial candidate, Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere, MFR, declaring that there would be no turning back in the party’s bid to reclaim the confidence of the people and secure victory in the 2027 elections.
Madumere, a former Deputy Governor of Imo State, made the declaration on Saturday during the inauguration of the PDP Imo East Senatorial Campaign Council in Owerri.
The event, which attracted party leaders, candidates, stakeholders, campaign officials, supporters and well-wishers, was described by Madumere as the beginning of a new political journey for the PDP in Owerri Zone, which he termed the “Journey of Grace.”
Addressing the gathering, the PDP candidate declared emphatically:
«“There is no turning back. We shall steam ahead! Ahead!! Ahead!!!”»
According to him, the campaign is not only about his senatorial ambition but also about mobilising support for credible PDP candidates contesting for the Senate, House of Representatives and Imo State House of Assembly.
Madumere said the party had prepared adequately for the electoral contest and was now ready to take its message directly to the electorate.
“We have prepared for this journey. We are ready. Now we move,” he declared.»
He urged party leaders and members to work collectively and intensify grassroots mobilisation, stressing that the strength of the PDP would be demonstrated through its presence across the wards and polling units of the senatorial district.
Madumere also cautioned political opponents against underestimating the capacity and determination of the PDP in Imo East, insisting that the inauguration of the campaign council marked the commencement of a serious grassroots political operation.
He expressed optimism that many former members and supporters who had left the party would return as the campaign progresses.
“Imo East Senatorial District shall know, from today, that a virile PDP has entered the arena of electoral contest — and strongly too,” he said.
Madumere Highlights Challenges Facing Owerri Zone
Beyond the political contest, Madumere used the occasion to draw attention to what he described as the critical challenges confronting the people of Owerri Zone.
He listed poor infrastructure, insecurity, the displacement of farmers by herdsmen, youth unemployment and the increasing problem of drug abuse among young people as issues requiring urgent attention.
The former Deputy Governor maintained that the people deserve representatives who are knowledgeable, experienced, courageous and capable of articulating their interests effectively at the National Assembly.
He appealed to the people of Owerri Zone to support the PDP candidates, assuring them that the campaign team would take the party’s message to every part of the senatorial district.
“Give us support. Trust us,” Madumere appealed.
‘The Battleground Is the Ward and Polling Unit’
Madumere disclosed that the PDP campaign would be anchored firmly on grassroots mobilisation, with particular emphasis on the wards and polling units across the nine local government areas that constitute Imo East Senatorial District.
Describing the wards and polling units as the real battleground, he charged members of the campaign council and party structures to take the campaign directly to the electorate.
“Our campaign shall be ward and polling-unit based. There is the battleground,” he stated.
He further assured supporters that the candidates would play their part, while the electorate would have the decisive responsibility of voting for the party on election day.
Concluding his address, Madumere declared:
“No one can push us back”. He repeat.
He called on the people of Owerri Zone to unite behind the PDP and its candidates, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious with the support of the electorate and the grace of God.
The inauguration consequently marked the formal commencement of the Madumere “Journey of Grace” campaign, a grassroots mobilisation effort aimed at taking the PDP’s message to communities, wards and polling units across Imo East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.
