The Owerri Zone Youth Assembly (OZYA) has commended the peaceful conduct of the recently concluded party primary elections in Imo State, describing the exercise as a demonstration of political maturity and democratic progress.
The group also congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the various party primaries and urged them to remain focused on issue-based campaigns ahead of the general election.
Addressing journalists in Owerri, the National President of OZYA, Comrade Caleb Emeka Asagwara, alongside members of the group’s executive council, passed a vote of confidence in the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, particularly applauding what he described as the governor’s firm commitment to the principles of equity, fairness and justice in the ongoing political process.
According to Asagwara, the governor’s position on equity has strengthened the aspiration of Owerri Zone to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2027, a development he said aligns with the principles of fairness and political inclusion.
He stressed that the Owerri Zone Youth Assembly is a non-partisan socio-political pressure group committed solely to promoting and protecting the collective interest of Owerri Zone, irrespective of political party affiliations or individual ambitions.
“Our objective is not to campaign for any political party or aspirant. We are united in pursuing the legitimate aspiration of Owerri Zone to produce the next governor of Imo State in 2027,” he stated.
Asagwara congratulated all candidates from Owerri Zone who secured their parties’ tickets during the primaries and wished them success in the forthcoming general elections.
He also appreciated the leadership of the various political parties for ensuring peaceful primary elections and for encouraging reconciliation among contestants after the exercise.
The OZYA President further appealed to political leaders, elders and stakeholders from Orlu and Okigwe zones to embrace the principle of equity by supporting Owerri Zone’s governorship aspiration in the interest of justice, fairness and the continued unity of Imo State.
He concluded by thanking the people of Imo State for maintaining peace throughout the primary election period, reaffirming that the Assembly would continue to serve as a strong voice in mobilising support and galvanising stakeholders towards the realization of Owerri Zone’s governorship project in 2027.
