Imo State ALGON/NULGE, Adikibe, Okere, Praises Uzodimma On LG Sustainable Procurement Training Workshops

The Chairman Association of Local Government of Nigeria ALGON, Hon. Ikenna Adikibe representing the entire 27 Council chairmen and the workers under the Imo State President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comr. Okey Okere, has separately praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for organizing a sustainable procurement training for local government area executive chairmen and principal officers through the State Bureau of Public Procurement and Price Intelligence (BPPPI).

Ikenna Adikibe Describing the training as wonderful and knowledgeable driven encounter to help his members in effective management, transparent and accountable administration of the Councils and thank the governor Senator Hope Uzodimma for his passion to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

While NULGE President, during an interview with journalists at the end of the 3 days workshop held at Rockview Hotel Owerri, appreciated the governor for being thoughtful in putting up the workshop.

Okere noted that all participants of the training benefited immensely from the richly packed course and very sure they will put to good use all they learnt to enhance leadership for even development and progress of the state beginning from the local government areas.

Okere who is also Vice Chairman of National Labour Congress (NLC), informed that the Procurement Law is an international standard which the World Bank is interested in its process with the sole idea to discourage corruption and control the use of public funds.

He added that the implementation of procurement law in any state enhances its development, as it allows for due process in disbursement of public funds and execution of projects at the local government areas.

“When the procurement law is followed judiciously in any locality and state, it brings about development of the state. The law is called due process where there is need for identification and assessment of needed goods and services, followed by pricing and bidding which the tender committee looks into for recommendations on which contractor to be engaged to carryout projects or other services.

“Through this means, a minimum bid is used to achieve maximal services or projects”, Okere explained.

He disclosed that the training stipulated for 5 days was concluded in 3 days because the trainees were able to grab the teachings fast and training courses were covered in just 3 days and so there was no need to run the program through the 5 days.

Some of the benefited Council Chairmen included, Hon. Ugochukwu Vitalis Obi (Etiokwe) Executive Chairman Njaba LGA and Hon. Ifunanya Nwanegwo of Mbaitolu Local Government Area expressed delight with the Hi-Tech training received from the Three days capacity building and training workshop from the Bureau of Public Procurement and Price Intelligence BPPPI.

It’s on record that all the Council Chairmen and the senior members of NULGE participated in the workshop with appreciation to the governor Senator Hope Uzodimma for putting in the resources to ensure training and retraining the Local Government Area Council Executives and Senior Civil Servants for optimal administration.
