Alleged Nigeria Naval Extortions In Owerri, Group Warns, Call’s For Discipline

A Non Governmental Organization under the aegis of Igbo National Council (INC) Worldwide has called the attention of the Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma and the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy in Imo State to investigate the allegations of illegal artificial traffic hike ups and illegal Extortions of Motorists at the popular Akachi Junction Aba Road Owerri Imo State by the Operatives of the Akachi Naval Outpost of the Nigerian Navy.
The Naval Operatives deployed at the aforementioned Naval Outpost with the task of providing Security in that Area has converted the Navy Check Point at Akachi Junction into an illegal tollgate where many motorists are arbitrarily extorted by building up artificial traffic jams in order to deliberately created an enabling environment for smooth extortions of innocent road users.
Speaking Igbo National Council Worldwide President Comrade Chilos Godsent stated that, it’s unacceptable and embarrassment for such activities to be in the heart of the Owerri Imo State and none is interested to speak out against the heinous actions impugning on both economic and administrations of the State.
In his words, “We are pained that in this hard time with high cost of fuel, motorists spend between ten to thirty minutes on traffic in a distance not up to one hundred (100) meters long without justifiable reasons”.
“It has also became very embarrassing to see trained Nigerian Naval Officers doing the work of Police Traffic Warden on expressway inside Owerri City”.
“Finally, we are using this medium to call on Governor Hope Uzodimma and the Naval Commander in Imo State to disallow and order for immediate stop of this traffic racketeering by the alleged Nigerian Navy Junior Officers at the Akachi Naval Outpost Owerri”. Comrade Chilos Godsent stated.
The group further, requested the Government of Imo State and the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy in Imo State to set-up Investigative and Monitoring Committee to arrest this ugly and shameful situations and possibly bring the perpetrators to book.
