Yes Oguta Blue Lake has been a source of income and hospitality for the people of Oguta Ameshie Ancient kingdom in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State since time immemorial.
The Oguta Lake has been a Terrence for European Expeditions through the Establishment of Palms Produce Beach called “Kalabari Beach” and the establishments of old sea Port which the State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma in his magnanimity has revisited to open it up again for Sea operations after it’s complete closure during the Biafran War.
The issue of the said Seaport is not the discussion for the day but the attitudes of Oguta Ameshie people towards the movement of the people, motor vehicles, tricycle’s and motorcycles through the lake using Pontoon. Oguta Ameshie Ancient kingdom has outlived such barbarian and old commuters faring system in the new age.
Giving the of number of well to do, exposed individuals from Oguta Ameshie alone, Technocrats, Politicians, Academias, Judiciary and other prominent individuals such as late Senator Arthur Francis Nzeribe, Chief Gogo Nwakoruche, Late Chief Alhaji Maduagwu, Late Chief Nzemiro’s, Late Philips Udom, Nwapa’s, Oputa’s, Irona’s and many others.
Why Oguta Ameshie Ancient kingdom should remained a shadow of itself and underdeveloped without any traceable meaningful development in this new era unlike in the early 80s, There are Banking facilities, John Holts Company, effective General Hospital, well planned City and Imo State government owned Pontoons under the Ministry of Transport in charge of faring people, vehicles tricycle’s motorcycles and bicycles thro and fro the Lake from Oguta one to Oguta two.
It is on record that the same route from Oguta Ameshie Ancient kingdom crossed the lake to other states like Rivers , Delta and Bayelsa respectively and Same route needs Imo State government urgent attention by not allowing Unscrupulous individuals mostly youths from Oguta to bring bad names to the State by fishing out the bad eggs among them using the Office of the Ministry of Transport Unit in Oguta Local Government Area to register and document those operators of the Ferry system and ensure that the prices for the water movement is reasonable enough to the passengers. And allowed other investors in the ferry business to put in their own efforts to make movement across the lake easier for the passengers as the State is threatening by insurgence and insecurity.
A personal observation on the activities of the Ferry system by Oguta Ameshie Youths. It’s only the Youths from Oguta are allowed to operate the water transport system across the lake as if it’s their father’s inheritance and Imo State government has no Ferry system to transport desperate and stranded passengers across the lake.
Also prices to pay before crossing is determined by the Youths in their ragged tagged wearing a smokers face in a disposition to show uncommon interest in the stranded passengers only interested in raking money.
The Federal Government through the Niger Delta Development Commission need to put an access Bridge across the lake to link other states from the South East to South South as such will help open up the Community and it’s environs to be developed
