Ezesinachi New Yam Festival Holds Next Sunday in Umuomi Uzoagba with Pomp and Pageantry

The annual Iri Ji (New Yam Festival) hosted by Chief Chibueze Basil Egbujor, popularly known as Eze Police, is set to take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his family compound in Umuomi, Uzoagba Autonomous Community, Ikeduru Local Government Area, Imo State.
The vibrant cultural event, which is a yearly tradition in Igbo land, serves as a thanksgiving to God and humanity for a peaceful farming season and bountiful harvest. This year’s festival promises to be a spectacular celebration featuring traditional activities such as wrestling matches, dance competitions, and grassroots empowerment initiatives aimed at supporting the people of Uzoagba and the wider Ikeduru community.
Chief Egbujor, a senior police officer and passionate custodian of Igbo culture, is widely respected for his dedication to promoting and preserving the values, identity, and traditions of the Igbo people. His annual festival not only celebrates the harvest but also reinforces community bonds and cultural pride.
Speaking ahead of the event, Chief Egbujor expressed his excitement and described the atmosphere in Umuomi as already “smelling like Christmas.” He assured attendees that preparations are in full swing to ensure a memorable occasion, with abundant food and drinks provided to guests.
He further extended a warm invitation to family members, friends, community leaders, and well-wishers, wishing them safe travels and assuring them of adequate security throughout the event. “Everything is in place. Security operatives are fully mobilized to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration,” he affirmed.
The event will commence at midday on Sunday at the Umuomi Uzoagba Primary School playground.
