In a significant move to enhance the coordination and welfare of commercial drivers in Imo State, the Self Employed Professional Drivers Association of Nigeria (SEPDAN) has officially opened its Permanent State Secretariat in Owerri.
The newly commissioned office complex, located along MCC Road by Chukwuma Nwaoha, will serve as the administrative and management hub for SEPDAN operations within the state.
The Commissioner for Transport Imo State Chief Emeka Okoronkwo was represented by the HOD Mr. Kingsley Arungwa while the General Manager ENTRACO, Hon. Anthony Anyaehie represented by Prince Chidi Nwaturuocha, Head of Operations in the Agency to give their unalloyed support to the Union.
Speaking during the official commissioning, the National President of SEPDAN, Elder Anaelechi Ukawunne, commended the Imo State chapter of the association for their unity and dedication, which led to the successful construction of the new facility.
“This permanent office will provide a centralized platform to manage and monitor our members more effectively and ensure alignment with government policies on transportation,” Elder Ukawunne stated.
He noted that SEPDAN, registered in 2018 under the Corporate Affairs Commission and operating with a permit from the Imo State Ministry of Transport, is committed to uniting commercial drivers and vehicle owners across the state under a common welfare and regulatory structure.
Elder Ukawunne highlighted that the association not only advocates for the welfare of its members but also offers professional management services for private commercial vehicle owners. These services include monitoring and supervising drivers to prevent misconduct and ensure road safety.
“Our members are regularly trained and retrained to uphold high standards, especially in maintaining a respectful and cooperative relationship with passengers,” he said.
He also called on commercial vehicle operators across Nigeria to join the association, emphasizing SEPDAN’s role in providing legal protection, welfare support, and resistance to unauthorized government interference.
“This new office, which replaces our former secretariat demolished at Mbaise Road Park, symbolizes our continued commitment to the growth of the transport sector in Imo State,” Ukawunne added.
He concluded by urging members to ensure the proper maintenance of the new facility, which will serve as the union’s administrative and corporate headquarters in the state.
