The Executive Chairman of Mbaitoli Local Government Area in Imo State, Hon. Chidiebere Lactus Nwanegwo, has strongly condemned the recent vandalism of solar-powered street lights in Orodo along the Owerri Orlu Road.
Hon. Nwanegwo described the act as not only criminal but also a direct attack on the legacy projects of the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
He emphasized that the people and the authorities of Mbaitoli LGA will not condone or tolerate any form of vandalism, theft, or sabotage of government properties.
“We deeply appreciate the efforts of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, whose 3R agenda has brought unprecedented development to Mbaitoli and the entire state. The installation of solar street lights is just one of many initiatives aimed at improving the lives of our people,” he said.
The chairman noted that Mbaitoli remains a strategic and major beneficiary of the state government’s infrastructural revolution, highlighting the dual carriage Owerri–Orlu and Owerri–Okigwe roads that pass through the LGA as key examples of the governor’s commitment.
Speaking further, Hon. Nwanegwo disclosed that he immediately mobilized local security and community stakeholders upon receiving reports of the incident. With the cooperation of residents of Ubahaeze in Orodo, several suspects have been apprehended and are currently undergoing interrogation. Some stolen materials have also been recovered.
“We are determined to ensure justice is served, and all government property restored. Anyone found culpable, regardless of status or political backing, will face the full weight of the law,” Nwanegwo stated.
The chairman also took a swipe at political detractors, alleging that some elements are deliberately attempting to undermine the developmental strides of the Uzodimma administration.
“We know that some opposition figures are desperate to see this government fail. But Governor Hope Uzodimma has consistently proven them wrong through his visible and impactful projects. The recent visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to commission landmark projects such as the Assumpta Flyover, the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre (EIICC), and the Owerri–Mbaise–Umuahia Road is a testament to the governor’s achievements—reminiscent of the era of the late Governor Sam Mbakwe,” he concluded.
