Tragedy struck in Egbu Community, Owerri North, today being Saturday, August 10, 2024, when four young people lost their lives while attempting to evacuate a soaker well Toilet system at Umunwokoji Umuayalu Village.
According to reports, the first person entered the well to evacuate the sewerage but could not get out.
In an attempt to rescue him, the second person entered the well, followed by the third and fourth persons, all of whom lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.
The bodies of the four victims were later evacuated and deposited in the mortuary. The cause of their deaths is yet to be determined, but it is believed to be related to the evacuation process.
This incident is a tragic reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety protocols when engaging in potentially hazardous activities.

A villager who narrated the ordeal under unanimous, said that, one of the victim’s a newly married couple with a month old baby also lost his life while the Community was thrown into confusion as a result of the alleged Sacrilege.
